WHAT WE BELIEVE

Core Beliefs

God

God is the Creator, Sustainer and Ruler of the universe. He is all-powerful, all-knowing and ever-present. He is both perfect and personal.

The Trinity

God has revealed Himself in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the one and only son of God who died for our sins and arose from the dead. He lived a perfect human life.

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired Word of God and is relevant for life today.

Every person has worth

Every person has worth as a creation of God, but all have sinned and fall short of His glory. As a result, all are lost, without hope, apart from Christ and in need of salvation through Him.

Forgiveness of sins

Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life is available to all who trust Christ as Savior and Lord.

Saved by Grace

God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves. Accepting Christ is a personal decision. We respond by believing that Jesus is who He claimed to be, by turning to the Lord, confessing our faith, and being baptized.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit dwells in the heart of every believer to help us become more like Jesus. He is our comforter and counselor.

The church

The church is the body of Christ in the world today and consists of all Christians everywhere.

Guiding Principles
  • Teaching biblical principles is the catalyst for transformation in the lives of people and in the life of the church.
  • Lost people matter to God, and therefore, must matter to the church.
  • The church should be culturally relevant, yet firmly rooted in the Word of God.
  • Followers of Jesus Christ should be authentic and pursue continuous growth in Him.
  • The church must function as a unified body of servants, with all believers discovering and making full use of the gifts and abilities God has given them.
  • Loving and encouraging one another should be the essence of church life.
  • Spiritual growth happens best in small groups (an environment of acceptance, trust, accountability and support).
  • A church that strives for excellence honors God.
  • The church is to be a positive influence in both the local and global community. What Jesus did 2000 years ago in His body, the church is to do today as His body.

Baptism

What is the meaning?

Baptism is an act of obedience that Jesus himself did as an example for us to follow. It is an important part of one’s decision to become a follower of Christ. It is a pledge of allegiance, a total physical commitment. Baptism says “all of me belongs to Him”.

What is the method?

We baptize by immersion because this is the way it was practiced by the apostles and the early church. The meaning of the Greek word for baptism is to immerse or plunge under water.

What does the Bible say?

Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38-41; 8:35-38; 16:30-34; Romans 6:3-5; Galatians 3:26-27

Communion

What is the meaning?

The Lord’s Supper (communion) is an act of worship which reminds us of what Jesus did on the cross for each one of us. He asked all of us to “do this” and remember Him. We take the bread (body) and the juice (blood) each weekend we gather to remember how He died on the cross for our sins.

When should we take communion?

The Lord’s Supper held a prominent place in the worship of the early church (Acts 2:42, 20:7). We believe that the same should hold true for today, so we offer it every weekend for those who desire it.

Who can take communion?

All believers in Jesus Christ are welcome to take communion.

What does the Bible say?

Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:2-25; Luke 22:14-40; John 6:53-59; I Corinthians 11:23-29
